A BIT ABOUT US

Purpose

Good Neighbor Connection (GNC) is a coalition of area churches whose purpose is to serve the community by spreading God’s love and connecting those in need of assistance with local resources.  Our purpose is to bring shalom (peace) to our neighbors.

Vision
Our vision is to grow into and establish a physical community location as a  safe gathering place for learning, sharing and connecting to the communities around us.  A place for children, youth, families and seniors to grow together in love and shalom. Thanks to volunteers we are connecting to various outreach programs.

History

Three founding churches, Bracken Methodist Church, Schertz United Methodist Church, and Universal City United Methodist Church have had ties to the area dating back to the 1870s, and each has ties with each other. Bracken Methodist Church was founded in 1871.
After drawing families from the area to its services for several years, it became difficult for many to travel the distance by buggy.  Therefore, a few members from Bracken acquired land and built Schertz United Methodist Church, which was founded in 1903.   Eventually, some of the Schertz members established Universal City UMC, which opened its doors in 1963.
Each church has provided years of service to its local community. The three churches have come together to combine efforts to better spread God’s love and to extend hope to those seeking assistance by providing resources, education, and guidance.  While currently including the three area Methodist churches, GNC is not limited to just them, and invites other churches, community organizations and like-minded businesses to join in the effort to spread God’s love and peace.
